Founded in 1836, Bolivar County is located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta along the mighty Mississippi River.

Bolivar County was named in honor of Simon Bolivar, leader of the liberation of several South American countries from Spain in the early 19th century.

Bolivar is one of ten Mississippi counties to have two county seats…Cleveland and Rosedale.

The original Rosedale Courthouse was destroyed by flood.

The Bolivar County Courthouse in Cleveland was erected in the early 1920s.
